I
learned of the Screaming Meanie 110 from reading Ron
Ayres' books on long distance riding, and from the Iron Butt
Association website (www.ironbutt.com).
This product and its big brother, the Screaming Meanie 220, are actually designed for long-distance truckers, but
they serve the same purpose for anyone that wants to get some sleep and
ABSOLUTELY must wake up on time.
Both products contain a countdown timer on steroids. Simply set the
number of hours and minutes before you want to wake up (up to 19 hrs 59 minutes), and nap secure in the knowledge that you WON'T sleep through
this alarm. Starting 10 minutes before the timer expires, you'll
learn where these little gals got their names - from the piercing 110dB siren! (There is a "Low" volume setting if you need it).
These are truly unique, practical gadgets for long distance riders (or
drivers), or for ANYONE who sleeps through a normal alarm clock. The
simple method of setting the alarm as a countdown timer eliminates
concerns about time zones or figuring AM/PM. They include a backlit
display to check remaining time, and a built-in battery tester. The
5- and 10-minute pre-alarms can be silenced with a single button press,
but the final alarm requires 3 buttons to be pushed simultaneously - a
complex enough maneuver that you WILL have to wake up to shut off the
alarm.
The Screaming Meanie 220 (formerly called the "Screaming Beekin") takes all the features above, and adds a clock
with Indigo back light, an even louder (120dB) siren, and a belt
clip. The Meanie 220's alarm can be set as a count-down timer just like
the Meanie 110's, or it can be set to go off at a specific time like a normal
alarm clock. It also has three volume levels instead of two.
