 This is the motorcycle camera that I've been waiting for. We've carried camera systems for several years, and they worked well - but they were cumbersome. There were battery packs, separate recorders, menus to navigate, and cables, cables, cables. I'd seen a couple of self-contained camera/recorders that were a step in the right direction, but too bulky.MotoComm's RiderCam30F is exactly the type of solution that I've always wanted. It's totally self-contained, fully waterproof, full-featured, and still small and lightweight enough to be truly practical. The RiderCam30F itself is an ultra-compact 1-1/4" x 4" - not much bigger than the "Lipstick" cameras that our previous systems used - and weighs only 3.5 ounces including the mount. This isn't just the camera though, like with the previous solutions - it's the whole system! Camera, recorder, Li-Ion rechargable battery pack, and media are all contained in this compact housing. The RiderCam30F records a high-resolution 640x480, 30fps image for excellent video, even suitable for burning to DVD. You can also select a lower 320x240 resolution if your video is only going to be used on web or YouTube. The battery pack will record for 2 hours on a charge, and an 8GB Micro SDHC card (not included, but they sell for $34 as of this writing at Wal-Mart) will hold 4 hours of high resolution video. A 4GB card is less than $20, and will hold 2 hours of video. Note about Micro SDHC cards - make sure you get a "Class 4" or higher card in order to be fast enough to handle the high-resolution mode. The class will be marked on the package. Using the RiderCam30F just about couldn't be simpler. Simply turn it on, snap it onto its flat surface (e.g. helmet) or handlebar mount, and touch the Record button on the back. The super-bright, daylight-visible record LED will light up to let you know it's working, then just saddle up and ride! The wide-angle view of the RiderCam30F will capture all the action.
The RiderCam30F is a complete package, including the RiderCam itself (with pre-installed Li-Ion battery pack), a carrying case, flat-surface and handlebar mounts, video cable, USB cable, and charger. Short and long straps are included to allow the flat-surface mount to be temporarily fastened to a fairing panel or other location without using adhesive. There's even a carrying case! It has everything you need except a memory card, which are inexpensive and available at stores like Wal-Mart or Best Buy. We think that this is an outstanding product, and the price is very reasonable. |

At the end of your ride, you can plug the included USB cord into your computer and transfer the AVI-format files to your PC or Mac for editing. Windows Movie Maker, included with Microsoft Windows, or iMovie included with MacOS, will read these files directly - as will just about any other editing software. Or, if you just want to view them on a TV without loading to your computer first, no problem! Just connect the included video cable directly from the RiderCam30F to the video input on your TV and play them that way.
