Second only to my butt, the main limitation to riding long miles in a
day is my back. The former problem is easy (albeit expensive) to
correct - there are many fine after-market seats available. Even so,
I still
find that after a few hundred miles I just have to get off and stretch
for a while.
I am very excited about this new product, because it gives me the
opportunity to keep riding miles and hours beyond the point where I was
compelled to stop before. The Back-A-Line belt
was developed to improve posture and reduce the instance of back
injuries. Don't confuse this with a generic support belt for lifting -
While the Back-A-Line is the best lifting belt you could ever wear, it is
also intended to be worn for long periods of time in
conditions where there is little or no direct lifting strain!
Motorcycling is very rough on your back. When sitting in
essentially one position for a long period of time, it is very difficult
to maintain proper posture. Standard elastic support belts actually exacerbate
this problem - they simply hold your back in whatever position it is in,
and do nothing to assist your posture. The rigid back support in the
Back-A-Line firmly but gently encourages your spine to keep the proper
shape, greatly reducing back strain. Also, the 4" wide belt
acts as a "kidney belt", minimizing painful vibration of the
kidneys on a long ride.
The Back-A-Line has received praise from professionals in osteopathy,
chiropractic, sports medicine, and industrial safety. The unique
rigid design with a non-elastic belt is lauded for its ability to provide
support under every-day conditions, not just during stressful activities
such as lifting. In short, it is ideally suited to long-distance
motorcyclists - but certainly not limited to us! The Back-A-Line can
be worn while gardening, golfing, jogging, swimming (well, OK, maybe not
swimming ;-)... it's great for just about ANY activity!
Motorcycle Consumer News (the
"Consumer's Report" of the motorcycle world) evaluated the Back-A-Line with
very favorable results. They were so impressed, they named it their
June 2001 "Innovation of the Month." After an 1,800-mile,
four-day ride with the Back-A-Line, David Searle, MCN's editor, said "It
works like a backrest that you can wear all day." We
couldn't agree more!
The Back-A-Line is available in six sizes, to fit waistlines from
23" to 48". We also have the new Back-A-Line "ZZ",
which fits up to 56" waistlines. The "ZZ" is made a
little differently, with a narrower belt designed to be worn low on the
belly to provide support in front as well as on the spine.
