What happened to February and March? Well, better late than never in getting a newsletter out I suppose.
The riding season is upon us in most of the US, and we're seeing bikes by the dozen coming through Eureka
Springs. This month, Sean's Tech Tips discusses making the rear of your bike more visible, and Laurene will tempt
you with some of the treats that Eureka Springs has to offer a visiting motorcyclist.
Also, the CycleGadgets.com OPEN HOUSE is scheduled for April 26th! We hope you can be here, we'll have food,
live music, and lots of bikes. That same day there is a motorcycle swap meet in town, and an open house at another
motorcycle shop near here - so you can hit all three in one trip! |

TechNote #4 - Cover Your A**
by Sean Franklin
While the majority of motorcycle-car collisions involve bikes running into cars (as discussed in my January tech note), a
close second is cars hitting the back of a motorcycle. Frequently these accidents occur when a bike is stopped at a
red light, stop sign, or making a left turn and the car behind doesn't notice that the bike has stopped.
What can you do to make yourself more visible to vehicles behind you? Just like the front of the bike, you need
to be conspicuous. Here are our suggestions...

Out and About in Eureka Springs
by Laurene Franklin
Spring is in the air. The red buds and dogwoods are in bloom. What a beautiful time of year here in
Northwest Arkansas! It seems the rains are finally over and fortunately flooding damage was not as bad near Eureka
as it was in other parts of Arkansas. The Little Golden Gate Bridge in Beavertown did suffer some major damage and
it is yet to be determined if it will be salvageable. If your ride plans included going North on 187 through
Beavertown please be advised the bridge is not passable.
Thanks to a customer we have discovered a great new eating place. The Oasis in
downtown Eureka Springs serves absolutely fabulous "Ark-Mex" lunches. It is hidden away on one of the stairways
between upper N. Spring Street and Main. When we finally hunted it down it was well worth the visit. The
restaurant is very small, reasonably priced and usually crowded with locals and those visitors who have heard about it
from locals. If you are walking the downtown shops during the lunch hours we highly recommend you stop. I've
tried to recreate the house dressing served on the side salads; it is so good I have asked them to bottle it! Sean's
favorite is the Huevos Ranchero.
When I first moved to town I'd drive by the Pine Mountain Jamboree and say to
myself; "good gosh, Hee-Haw Lives!". Well, the laugh was on me and my snobby attitude. We attended the show at the
end of last season and were pleasantly surprised and very entertained. It features music
of all tastes, with a fair bit of family-friendly comedy mixed in. The musicians and singers were truly
outstanding. The show appealed to a wide variety of musical tastes, some country, some pop and some Christian; all
artistically presented. We liked the show so much that we got 2 seasons passes for this year and have been promised
that this year's show is even better than last year - we can't wait to see for ourselves. It's a great evening's
entertainment while you are visiting Eureka!
Ah, where to stay. We've highlighted some lake lodging and Riders-only locations in the past so now we'll go a
little more traditional. For those who want to be on the trolley route closer to downtown a favorite motel is the Edelweiss Inn. The owners are bikers
themselves and are accustomed to catering to motorcyclists needs. The motel is clean, comfortable, reasonably
priced and has plenty of parking. It is located just behind the Café Amore (great pizza) on US62 East.
We've had lots of compliments for the Edelweiss from many riders.
Or if you prefer to be closer to CycleGadgets, a great new place has opened just about a mile from our
location. The Sugar Mountain Resort is comprised of 5 cabins
nestled serenely in the woods. The cabins are beautifully appointed with fireplaces, little lanai patios, big
comfortable beds, ceiling fans and Jacuzzi tubs. Although a little more expensive than downtown motels they are way more
reasonable than other cabin type accommodations in the area. We have sent a few customers there and have received rave
reviews.
Enjoy and Ride Safe Laurene

Adaptiv TPX Motorcycle Radar Detector
I've run radar detectors on my motorcycles for years. We carry the excellent Escort
brand, but as feature-rich as they are, they have the same fundamental flaw on a bike as most others - they can't
withstand weather. After dealing with baggies, cases, and covers for all this time, I'm excited to be able to "plug
it in and turn it on" with my new Adaptiv TPX waterproof detector! With the buttons and display on top, it's
ergonomically designed for a motorcycle. Accessories such as a wireless helmet speaker and a bright LED alert make
this a great item for your bike. |
